Barabirang Projects brings together Baramadagal Darug man Willem Brussen and Bundjalung and Kullilli man Daniel Browning to learn more about the world and work of  journalist, broadcaster and Professor Daniel Browning, since the release of his award winning book Close to the Subject, which presents a selection of pieces from Daniel Browning's stellar career as a journalist, radio broadcaster, critic and interviewer.

As part of the Parramatta’s Lit! 2026 Writer & Editor in Residence Program, residents are invited to a special private event at the Dharug Keeping Place.  

Come binge on everything you didn't know! 

This space is designed to have a cuppa with Traditional Custodians doing frontline work to ensure community protocols are practised, people are connected, histories are remembered with care, and the next pages are written with respect for Country and those who will walk these sacred lands after us.

From the first sunrise, our peoples have been here.

Come and learn what that means for this specific place, Baramadagal Country, and what it means to listen, learn and walk respectfully on Country today.

Led by Baramadagal Darug Tribal Governing Council and Barabirang Projects, assisted by the Australian Government through Creative Australia and City of Parramatta.

We will then hear from speakers; Baramadagal Darug woman Jayne Christian, Sara Haddad who is a Lebanese Australian woman, editor and writer and author of The Sunbird, and Assala A Sayara who is a Palestinian woman, PhD candidate, social worker and founder of Haweyate. 

You’re welcome to bring a short piece of your own writing, or a piece of writing meaningful to you while properly attributing the author, to share as we focus our thoughts on shaping the world we want for humanity.

The mass lack of humanity in the world continues to be devastating to experience and witness, we believe in the power of our thoughts and words, and in communities coming together to practise what it means to be together in our shared humanity, not as a feel-good exercise disconnected from world events, but to be in the practise of creating the world we want: one with restored civility, connection and respect for our shared humanity in the communities we belong to and co-exist with.

APAN's Solidarity Conference on 15 - 16 August 2026 is being held on Baramadagal Country 

Jayne will be providing official opening responsibilities with community, form part of panel discussion and co-facilitate a workshop with Assala Sayara.

Djiriyay + Révolution  (2026) shown on Baramada Country hosted space for cultural practice, weaving connection circles and Staunch Yarns. 

This iteration featuring new work in collaboration with Keywa Henri focusing on our respective Indigenous languages and Indigenous dialogue on pressing issues.

Jayne is the proud recipient of one place in the 2026 Regional Artist Development program offered by the Wagga Wagga Art Gallery. 

The residency produced a body of work that reflects on how the construct of time has been radically altered through her Mum's diagnosis of Motor Neurone Disease (MND) and her responsibilities as her Mum's carer. 

The residency hosted a Fundraiser Morning tea raising over $550 for MND NSW and a weaving workshop co-facilitated with Aunty Pam Honeysett and Jayne's cousin, Heidi Duncan.

Barabirang Projects, alongside Baramadagal community members, supported the inaugural Parramatta Play Project, led by Director Augusta Supple and funded by Create NSW and Creative Australia.

The Parramatta Play Project  brought together world-class creatives to develop a new play grounded in the lands, relationships, and histories of Baramada.

.Through a First Nations-led model of community engagement, we came together multiple times over the six-week project to share stories, strengthen connections, and receive the first reading of the draft play.

We couldn’t be prouder of the team and the callibre of storytelling that has been created through this respectful and meaningful process.
